A member of the Sacred Heart men's soccer program since 1999, Rodrigo Nunes is in his seventh year as the assistant coach of the Pioneers. A 2003 graduate of the University, Nunes played for the Pioneers as a student, serving as a captain for three years.
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Nunes grew up playing soccer. He played with two highly touted Brazilian club teams, Guarani and Ponte Preta. With Ponte Preta he also served as an assistant coach, planning and organizing preseason training and practices. After coming to the United States to attend Sacred Heart, Nunes began to show his talent as a coach as well as a player. His skills and international experience have made him one of the most recognized coaches in the area. Over the last 10 years, Nunes has worked with several age groups, organizing schedules and practices. He is today the coaching director in Fairfield, CT and other towns in the SWD. Nunes is responsible for 1000 children and oversees a staff of 30 coaches.
Nunes played on the Connecticut Select All-Star team for seven seasons. He was a member of the team in 2001, when they won the National Cup in Tampa, FL.
In addition to his coach duties, Nunes currently runs his own soccer school, named the Rnunes Soccer Academy, which is today one of the fastest growing youth soccer organizations in the state. Throughout the year, he runs camps and clinics that attract over 1000 children. Nunes is fluent in three languages, Portuguese, English and Spanish.
