(Newark, NJ) – The New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders scored three times in the second half, handing the Sacred Heart Men's Soccer team its first loss of the season 3-2.

Mahmoud Kafel (Fairfield, CT) opened the scoring in the 14th minute with his second goal in as many games, converting on a give-and-go with Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, MA) off a turnover to give SHU the game's first lead.

However, NJIT scored three unanswered goals in the second to go on top for good. Cristian Marcel took a 50-yard pass from Joshua Mercer for a shot from about 15 yards out to tie it in the 52nd minute. Franco Gamero put the Highlanders on top in the 66th minute on a cross from Chistian Galindo on the left side. Galindo immediately added another with unassisted goal 27 seconds later with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Jamal Vinson (Teaneck, NJ) took a pass from Vieira in the 71st minute and put a shot from the right side inside the far post to cut SHU's deficit to one goal, but the Pioneers would get no closer.

Sacred Heart, now 3-1 on the season, is back in action Sunday afternoon when the Pioneers travel up the Merritt Parkway to take on the Yale Bulldogs at 1:00 pm.
