Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team travels to Robert Morris University for its season finale Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are coming off a loss to Drexel on Senior Night last week while the Colonials fell to Villanova on Saturday. Face-off at Joe Walton Stadium is set for 12:00 pm.
The Colonial Series... The Pioneers have never lost to Robert Morris, leading the all-time series, 4-0. Sacred Heart won at home last year after winning in their first visit to Moon Township, PA two seasons ago. SHU posted a 15-9 win over Robert Morris at home in the first meeting between the two schools as members of the CAA. The Pioneers beat the Colonials 18-8 in Florida during the 2005 season, Robert Morris's inaugural season of competition.
Last Meeting... Bobby Rushton and Dan Casciano combined to score seven goals to lead the Pioneers to a 15-11 win over visiting Robert Morris in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams last season at Campus Field. Rushton tied his career-high with four goals, two man-up, as the Pioneers improved to 5-1, their best start on the Division I level.
SHU Loses on Senior Night... The Pioneers lost to Drexel, 10-4 Saturday night on Senior Night at Campus Field. Sophomore Evan Morgan scored two goals to lead the Sacred Heart offense. Seniors Bobby Karl and Dan Casciano also netted goals in their final home games. Junior Timmy Katz was held without a point for the first game all season and freshman Dennis Gannon has his four game goal scoring streak snapped. Sacred Heart has now lost five straight meetings with Drexel. The loss eliminated the Pioneers from playoff contention.
Leaders of the Troops... Leading the Pioneers onto the field this year is senior captain Bobby Rushton. One of the top offensive midfielders for the red and white throughout his career, Rushton scored 14 goals last year and was fourth on the team in scoring. Also on the attack is Dan Casciano, who is tied for the the team lead with 19 tallies. Rushton has 12 goals and sophomores Jon Flood and Evan Morgan and freshman Dennis Gannon each have have nine.
Scouting the Colonials... After being one of the hottest teams in the nation over the first half of the season, Robert Morris has cooled off in the second half, having lost three straight and five of their last six games. The Colonials have the CAA's top offense and boast the top two scorers in the conference. Trevor Moore leads the league in scoring with 44 points including 29 goals and 15 assists. Corbyn TaoBrambleby has scored a league leading 30 goals to along with 13 helpers. Sal Barcia is the Colonial goaltender, sporting a goals against average of 10.18 having started every game.
