Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team returns home for a Senior Night showdown against Drexel Saturday night at Campus Field. The Pioneers completed a four game road trip with a win over Quinnipiac last Saturday and will attempt to secure a spot in the CAA playoffs by winning their final two league games over the next two weeks. Saturday game is set for a 7:00 pm face-off at Campus Field.
The Dragon Series... Drexel leads the all-time series, 6-1. The Dragons have won four straight thanks to a home win last season. Drexel took the first two meetings, 14-7 in 2002 and 9-8 in 2003. Sacred Heart's lone win in the series took place in 2004 at Drexel.
Last Meeting... Senior Andrew Chapman scored five goals as the #14 Drexel Dragons scored nine-straight goals to open the game posting a 15-4 win over visiting Sacred Heart last year in Philadelphia. The Dragons clinched a share of Colonial Athletic Association regular season title with the win while the Pioneers were eliminated the playoffs.
SHU Splits Pair... The Pioneers split two games last week, dropping a 7-6 decision at Delaware Wednesday before beating Quinnipiac, 12-9 on Saturday. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs with the high seeds hosting. SHU can put themselves in playoff position with wins in their final two games and a Villanova loss as well as some other help throughout the standings. The Pioneers have never participated in the CAA playoffs.
Senior Salute... Prior to Saturday's game, Sacred Heart will honor the graduating members of the men's lacrosse program. This group of seniors has helped lead the Pioneers into playoff contention for a CAA playoff berth for the first time. Last season the group helped lead the red and white to their second winning season in their Division I history.
Katz Leading the Offense... After being one of the top attackers last season, Junior Timmy Katz has picked up right where he left off. Katz leads the Pioneer attack with 19 goals and six assists on the year. He earned CAA Player of the Week honors on March 10 after scoring the overtime game-winner against Hartford. He scored four of SHU's five goals in one goal loss against Hofstra on March 21.
