Men's Lax Travels to #6 Hofstra Saturday

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers travel to Hofstra for their second straight road game. Faceoff is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday.
Last Time Out... Sacred Heart lost a 17-7 decision at Jacksonville last Sunday in its first away game of 2010. The Pioneers and Dolphins went into the locker room tied at six. SHU's offense went stagnant in the second half as they were outscored 11-1. Senior attack Timmy Katz scored four goals, all in the first half. Classmate Tom Trgo made a season-high 22 saves.
About the Pioneers... Sacred Heart opened the season with a four game home stand that turned into a disappointing 1-3 record out of the gate, followed by the loss at JU. Katz leads the team in scoring with a team-high 14 goals plus four assists to total 18 points. Classmate Jon Flood has scored 10 times and dished out three assists of his own. Sophomore Matt Ferrino is the third highest goal scorer on the team, having found the back of the net eight times. In the cage, Trgo has earned four starts and owns a 12.39 goals against average and a .593 save percentage.
Scouting the Pride... Coming off a win over #7 Johns Hopkins Hofstra, currently ranked sixth, is 2-1 on the season. The Pride are led in scoring by junior attack Jamie Lincoln with 10 goals anf six assists. Fellow juniors Stephen Bentz and Jay Card have recorded 11 points apiece. Bentz has seven scores anf four helpers, while Card has five and six. Freshman goalie Rob Bellairs has started two games and made 16 saves, while owning a 2-1 record.
All-Time vs. Hofstra... The Pride have won all eight previous matchups between the two schools. The former Colonial Athletic Association rivals have played every season since 2002. That year, Hofstra took the first game 19-5. The Pioneers have lost by one goal on three occasions, including a 9-8 overtime defeat at home in 2003.
Last Time They Met... Last season the Pride came away with a 6-5 win at Campus Field. Card scored twice in the win for Hofstra. Katz led all goal scorers with four.
Up Next... Sacred Heart remains on the road for a showdown with Wagner at 1:00 pm on March 24. The Pioneers return home to face intrastate rival Hartford on March 27.
In the Polls... Sacred Heart received votes in last week's (Mar 7) United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Poll. It was the second time this season that the Pioneers have received votes in this poll. SHU has also been ranked as high as sixth in the NEILA Coaches' Poll Top Eight.
Weekly Honors... Senior attack Timmy Katz was named the Turfer NEILA Player of the week for the week ending February 21. Katz scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists in a 13-6 win over Presbyterian.
Top 50... Trgo ranks ninth in the country, out of 48 eligible goalies, with a save percentage of .598. Katz is in a four-way tie for 19th in goals per game with 2.80 and 36th in the country for points per game at 3.60 through games completed March 14.
