Philadelphia, Pa. - The Drexel Dragons built a 6-1 first quarter lead and extended it to 9-3 by halftime on their way to an 18-6 win over visiting Sacred Heart in Colonial Athletic Association men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. Drexel's Jeff Pfeffer had a career-high seven points and Adam Dennis netted a career-best five goals en route to the win.
Dennis scored three of his five goals in the first six minutes as the Dragons (5-6, 2-3 CAA) raced to an early lead and never trailed in the contest. The Dragons had goals from nine different players as they had a season-high for goals, assists and points.
After jumping out 4-0, Sacred Heart's (2-9, 2-3 CAA) James Hinkson got the Pioneers on the board with an unassisted goal. The Dragons kept their offense rolling though and rattled off a pair of scores before the final horn of the quarter sounded. Hinkson pulled the Pioneers to within 6-2 with a marker at 11:47 of the second but Drexel once again answered in a big way offensively.
Three-straight Dragon goals put them up 9-2 before a Kiel Adams goal at the two minute mark sent the game into the break, 9-3, Drexel. The Dragons came out of the half and didn't miss a beat offensively, scoring the first four goals of the second half to put the game out of reach. Phfeffer and Yoni Cohen each scored twice on the run to put their team out in front by ten, 13-3.
All three of the Pioneers' goals in the second half came on man-up situations. Billy Fuchs had two of those goals and Matthew Robideau completed the scoring with 1:28 left in the game with Drexel down a man.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 18th when they travel to #7 Maryland for a 3 pm face-off
