Men's Lax Runs Past Wagner, 22-5
March 3, 2007
FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Tony Tanzi (Mahopac, NY) notched his first hat trick of the season, while senior Peter Greco (Hamburg, NY) broke the school record for assists in a game with six, to help the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team run away with a 22-5 win over Wagner College Saturday.
The Pioneers, 1-1, scored goals on each of their first four shots and led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Senior Mike Collins (Auburn, NY) scored early in the second to make it 8-0, before Wagner scored a man-up goal by Josh Hamilton for the first Seahawk goal of the game.
Sacred Heart led 14-3 at the half and outshot the Seahawks 28-15.
Greco tied the school assist record with his fifth on a Dan Mesler goal just 1:22 into the third quarter. He broke the record 31 seconds later when senior Rory Morse (E. Falmouth, MA) scored his second goal of the game. Greco's six assists breaks the mark held by Chris Lukowski against Dowling in 1996 and Mike Robel against Drexl in 2002.
Sixteen different players scored for the Pioneers. Tanzi, Morse, freshman Evan Morgan (Ashburn, VA), sophomore Nicholas Russo (Lindenhurst, NY), sophomore Bobby Rushton (W. Islip, NY) and freshman Dan Mesler (Branchport, NY) each had multiple tallies for SHU. Sophomore Bobby Karl (Clifton Park, NY) had a goal and three assists.
Josh Hamilton led Wagner with a pair of goals, while Andrew Daly had a goal and two assists.
The Pioneers will be off until next Saturday when they travel for a 1:00 game at Manhattan College. That game will be played at Ossining High School
