DENVER, Col. (March 1, 2009) - Sacred Heart senior Bobby Karl (Clifton Park, NY) scored a goal and had an assist but the Pioneers fell to the Air Force Falcons on the second day of the Harrow Face-Off Classic hosted by Denver at Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Falcons got a career-high six goals from senior K.J. Landgraf in the win, sending SHU to their fourth-straight loss to start the year.
Landgraf, who entered the contest with six career goals, tallied his first score of the game at the 11:56 mark in the opening period to give Air Force a 2-0 advantage, and by the half, had five of his six goals for the game. Getting scores from five different players in the first quarter, the Falcons led 7-0 after one period of action, capped off by a goal with 12 seconds left on the clock.
Air Force's advantage grew to 8-0 following Landgraf's third goal of the game early in the second period, before the Pioneers tallied their first score of the game on a man-up goal with 12:21 left in the half. Karl buried a feed from junior Timmy Katz (Freeport, NY) for a man-up marker ending the Falcon run at 12:21. SHU's Tim Russo (Lindenhurst, NY) scored his first goal of the season at 6:55 to cut the lead to 8-2 but the Falcons closed out the half with three unanswered scores to go up 11-2 at the break.
The Pioneers opened the second half with a man-up goal off the stick of senior Nick Hautau (South Salem, NY) and tacked two more on in the third quarter from senior Bobby Rushton (West Islip, NY) and freshman Dennis Gannon (Huntington, NY). The Falcons matched SHU's three goal effort and kept the Pioneers at bay. Landgraf finished off the game with his sixth in the fourth quarter to produce the final 15-5 score.
The Falcons outshot the Pioneers 64-24 in the game and held a 50-37 edge on ground balls.
Sacred Heart returns to Connecticut to take on the instate Hartford Hawks on the road on Saturday, March 7th at 1 pm.
