FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart men's lacrosse head coach Jon Basti announced on Tuesday the Pioneers' freshman class for the 2018 season.
The group of 12 consists of five attackmen, three midfielders, two long stick midfielders, and two defensemen. Five of the incoming freshmen hail from Massachusetts, with two players from New York and one each from Connecticut, Colorado, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Ontario.
Sam Abate – 5-10/180 – Midfield – Beverly, Mass./Beverly
Abate was a two-time conference Player of the Year at Beverly High School, leading Beverly to three Massachusetts Division 2 North championships. He was a Massachusetts All-American his junior year.
Drew Edwards – 6-0/175 – Attack – South Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy
Edwards was a part of four consecutive Rhode Island Interscholastic League boys lacrosse championship teams at LaSalle Academy. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 state championship game. Edwards was twice named First Team All-State in 2016 and 2017.
Kyle Foley – 6-1/165 – Midfield – South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor
Foley earned four varsity letters at South Windsor High School. He was named All-CCC three times, leading South Windsor to the 2017 CCC East championship. His cousin, Brendan, played lacrosse at SHU and graduated in 2010.
Lucas Leyba – 5-10/160 – Long-Stick Midfield – Littleton, Colo./Columbine (Detroit Mercy)
Leyba was a four-year letterwinner at Columbine High School. Twice named All-League, Leyba was a Second Team All-State selection as a junior and First Team All-State as a senior. He comes to Sacred Heart after transferring from Detroit Mercy.
Logan Liljeberg – 5-8/160 – Attack/Midfield - Wrentham, Mass./LaSalle Academy
Liljeberg was a teammate with Edwards at LaSalle Academy, winning four Rhode Island state titles. He was twice named First Team All-State and First Team All-Division. Liljeberg also lettered in hockey and was a member of LaSalle Academy's 2015 state championship hockey team, the school's first in 37 years. His sister, Jenna, played lacrosse at SHU and graduated in 2016.
Quinn O'Reilly – 6-0/165 – Attack – Rockville Center, N.Y./St. Anthony's
O'Reilly joins his brother, Connor, on the SHU campus.
Anthony Scaramucci – 5-9/155 – Long-Stick Midfield - Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset
Scaramucci played both lacrosse and soccer at Manhasset High School.
Connor Severino – 5-4/150 – Midfield - Mattapoisett, Mass./LaSalle Academy
The third member of the class from LaSalle Academy, Severino was a First Team All-State selection for the Rams.
Conor Sullivan – 6-2/190 – Defense – Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian Brothers
Sullivan was named an Eastern Massachusetts Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American twice at Xavierian Brothers High School.
Jaden Walcot – 5-11/200 – Attack – Oakville, Ontario/The Hill Academy
Walcot comes to SHU after earning two varsity letters at The Hill Academy.
Alex Weiss – 6-1/195 – Attack – Mirror Lake, N.H./Brewster Academy (Westminster School)
Weiss lettered in lacrosse all four years at Brewster Academy, winning two Lakes Region championships in 2014 and 2015. He was the top scorer for Westminster School this past year, earning First Team All-Founders League honors. Weiss was selected to the 2017-18 training squad for the German National Lacrosse Team.
Teddy Yerardi – 5-11/177 – Defense - Newton, Mass./Newton North
Yerardi was a four-year letterwinner at Newton North High School. A two-year captain, Yerardi was twice named First Team All-Conference.
Sacred Heart went 9-6 in 2017, reaching its third Northeast Conference Tournament.
