Men’s Lacrosse Drops 7-1 Game At #7 Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team lost to the #7 Navy Midshipmen Friday night 7-1 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Friday night's game was the first-ever matchup between the Pioneers and Midshipmen. Julian Garritano had the Pioneers' lone goal. He now has six goals in the last four games. Greg Price made a career-high 16 saves in goal. That's the most saves for a Pioneer goalie since Jon Flood made 18 against Robert Morris last season.

Navy (10-3) led 4-0 after the first quarter, getting goals from T.J. Hanzsche, Greyson Torain, Ray Wardell, and Kevin Wendel. Garritano scored Sacred Heart's (2-12) lone goal with 11:23 to play in the second quarter, bouncing a shot past Midshipmen goalie John Connors with 11:23 to play making the score 4-1. Drew Smiley gave Navy a 5-1 halftime lead with his goal at the 1:43 mark of the second. The Midshipmen scored twice more in the third quarter to take a 7-1 lead. SHU's defense shut down Navy in the fourth quarter, holding the Midshipmen scoreless.

The Midshipmen outshot the Pioneers 40-26 and had 32 groundballs to SHU's 17. Jack Ray led Navy with three points on a goal and two assists, as Hanzsche scored a pair of goals.

The Pioneers play their final home game of the season on Tuesday, April 26 when Bryant comes to Campus Field for a 7 p.m. game.
