Pioneers Look To Extend Winning Streak Saturday Night Against Quinnipiac

Setting the Scene... Winners of its last two games, the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team looks for its third win in a row when it hosts the Quinnipiac Bobcats under the lights at Campus Field.

All-Time Series vs. Quinnipiac... Tonight's game is the 18th all-time meeting between the Pioneers and Bobcats. Sacred Heart leads the series 11-6 after a 13-9 win last season at Campus Field. Cody Marquis had eight points in the game on four goals and four assists. Mike Mawdsley also had four goals in the game.

Last Time Out... Sacred Heart scored a season-high 21 goals last Saturday, winning 21-8 at Wagner. Ten different Pioneers scored a goal in the game, led by Matt King and Mike Mawdsley's four goals. Matt Gannon dished out a single-game program record seven assists. Freshman Alex Dodge had a career-high four points on two goals and two assists. Sacred Heart led 13-2 at halftime and outshot the Seahawks 53-23 for the game. 

Coaches vs. Cancer Saturday Night...  The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team and head coach Tom Mariano have teamed up with the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer initiative for Saturday night's game against Quinnipiac. When the Pioneers host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, Sacred Heart will wear t-shirts featuring the names of people who have fought against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Gannon Named NEC Co-Player of the Week...  Junior attackman Matt Gannon was named NEC Co-Player of the Week on Monday after dishing out a single game program record seven assists at Wagner. His seven points are also a career-high, eclipsing his five at Mount St. Mary's. Gannon was also named the NEILA Player of the Week. He is second in the NEC, and eighth nationally, in assists per game at 2.4. He is also fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 2.8 points per game. Over the last six games, Gannon has recorded 19 assists and four goals.

Mawdsley Making Moves... Mike Mawdsley scored four goals last Saturday at Wagner, giving him eight in NEC play. Over the last five games, Mawdsley has scored 12 goals to give him a team-leading 21 markers for the season. He hs third in the NEC in goals per game with 2.1 a contest. Mawdsley is eighth in the nation with a .488 shot percentage and 52nd in goals per game.

Success At The X... Stephen Kontos won 20 of 23 faceoffs at Wagner, a season-high for the senior midfielder. He had that same total against the Seahawks last season. Kontos is seventh nationally in faceoff percentage at 60.6%, and is second in the NEC behind Bryant's Kevin Massa who leads the nation.
