  • Sacred Heart Hosting Boys Lacrosse Prospect Clinic

    Sacred Heart will be hosting the Lacrosse Prospect Clinic on October 20 and December 9. The camp is geared towards high quality instruction with competitive games being played one at a time for maximum exposure and detailed instruction.
  • Men's LAX Announces Team Awards; 2013 Captains Named

    The Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team announced sophomore attack Cody Marquis (Londonderry, N.H.) as the 2012 Offensive MVP, while goalkeeper Ryan Hughes (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the Defensive MVP. The coaching staff honored midfielder Joe Kemp (Troy, MI.) as Rookie of the Year. Steve Kontos (Danvers, Mass.) received the coveted Heart Award.
  • Lupo and Ferrino to Play in NEILA All-Star Game

    Two Pioneers will play in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s East vs. West All-Star game on Friday. Senior midfielders Aaron Lupo (Schnectady, N.Y.) and Matt Ferrino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) will take the field for the West. The event, sponsored by Anaconda, will by held at 7:00 p.m. at the Harvard soccer stadium.
  • Three Seniors Earn NEILA Academic Honors

    Three senior men’s lacrosse players were honored for their academic success yesterday. Matt Ferrino (Orchard Park, N.Y.), Aaron Lupo (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Rock Tate (Lantana, Fl.) were named to the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Senior Scholar-Athlete Team.
  • A Trio of Pioneers Named to All-Northeast Conference Team

    Three members of the Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team received All-Conference honors earlier today. The trio of Matt Ferrino (Orchard Park, N.Y.), Andrew Newbold (Loveland, Oh.) and Ryan Hughes (Bayport, N.Y.) were named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team.

  • Pioneers to Face Quinnipiac Bobcats on Senior Night Saturday

    The Sacred Heart Pioneers and Quinnipiac Bobcats are set to face-off Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the final game of the regular season. Both teams come in carrying a 3-9 overall record. Quinnipiac’s 2-2 record against Northeast Conference opponents has clinched them a spot in the 2012 NEC Tournament. On Saturday, the Pioneers will be honoring their nine seniors prior to the game in a Senior Night ceremony.
  • Pioneers Close Out the Season with 13-9 Win on Senior Night

    Seven goals in the fourth quarter boosted the Pioneers to their first conference win in the last game of the 2012 season. Cody Marquis (Londonberry, N.H.) led the forceful Sacred Heart offense having a hand in eight goals with four goals and four assists in the Pioneers’ 13-9 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats. SHU finishes the season owning a 4-9 record.
  • Pioneers Take on Mount St. Mary's in Final Road Game of the Year

    The preseason favorite and defending NEC champion Mount St. Mary’s hosts the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday as both teams are still looking for their first NEC victory as the season is coming to a close.
  • Pioneers Fall 8-9 to the Mount

    The Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team played neck and neck with Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, but the Pioneers could not overcome the deficit caused by the Mount’s five-goal third quarter and fall 8-9. Matt Gannon (Huntington, N.Y.) and Mike Mawdsley (Innisfil, On.) led Sacred Heart with two goals each. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 3-9 on the season.

    The Pioneers are looking to rebound from last week's loss to a tough Robert Morris squad when they head to Staten Island this weekend, while the hometown Seahawks are still in the hunt for their first win of the season.

    The Pioneers headed into the final quarter of the game with a two-goal lead, but the Seahawks held the Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team scoreless while netting five goals to earn Wagner its first win of the season. With the 11-8 loss the Pioneers fall to 3-8 on the season and are still winless against Northeast Conference opponents.
  • Sacred Heart Hosts Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday

    The Pioneers will take on Robert Morris Saturday afternoon in their first Northeast Conference home game of the 2012 season. The Colonials have won two-straight and four of their last five after a 22-10 win at Wagner in their NEC opener last Saturday. SHU is 0-1 after falling at Bryant, 11-8, and are looking to snap out of a two-game slide.

    A five-goal run in the second quarter gave Robert Morris a huge lead that the Pioneers could not overcome in the 17-10 loss. Mike Mawdsley (Innisfil, On.) led the Pioneers with four goals, doing all his scoring in the first half. With the loss, Sacred Heart falls to 3-7 and is still winless against Northeast Conference opponents.

    Aaron Lupo (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team with two goals, but it wasn’t enough to top the Bryant Bulldogs as the Pioneers fell 11-8 Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs claimed a four-goal lead in the first quarter that they would never relinquish. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 3-6, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-2.
  • Final Tune-Up for NEC Play Saturday Night as SHU Hosts St. John's

    The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team wraps up the two-game home stand against the St. John's Red Storm Saturday night before heading to Bryant next Saturday to open NEC play against the Bulldogs. The Pioneers rebounded from last weekend's tough 12-11 loss to Vermont with a 10-9 win over the University of Hartford on Wednesday. The Red Storm fell to Hofstra on Tuesday 14-10 snapping a two-game winning streak.

    The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team was outscored 9-2 in the second half Saturday night on their way to a 13-8 loss to St. John's on Campus Field to close out non-conference play. Sophomore Cody Marquis (Londonberry, N.H.) and senior Aaron Lupo (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with two goals a piece in the loss. Sacred Heart's record falls to 3-5 overall, while the Red Storm improve to 5-3 with the win.

  • Pioneers Pick-Up Another Close Win; Top Hartford 10-9

    Sacred Heart sophomore Ryan Hughes (Bayport, NY) turned in 13 saves, non bigger than his last with eight seconds to play to preserve a 10-9 win over the University of Hartford Wednesday afternoon on Campus Field. Four different Pioneers scored multiple goals to lead SHU to their third win in their last four games, raising their record to 3-4 on the year. The Hawks fall to 2-6.
  • SHU Rally Thwarted by Late Vermont Goal

    The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team rallied back from five-goals down to tie late in the fourth quarter but Vermont's Connor McNamara delivered the game-winner scoring with 10 seconds left to give the Catamounts their first win of the season, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. The Pioneers fall to 2-4 with the loss, their fourth loss this season by two goals or less.

    The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team heads north to the University of Vermont off a pair of wins last week. The Pioneers nabbed their first win of 2012 in upset fashion, knocking off then #15 ranked Yale, 13-12. SHU closed out the week using a big second half to take down Manhattan, 9-6, on Saturday. The Catamounts are still searching for their first win over 2012 and are coming off a 9-8 loss to Holy Cross on Tuesday.

    Sacred Heart sophomore Mike Mawdsley(Innisfil, Ont.) scored four goals, two man-up, to lead the Pioneers to a 9-6 win over visiting Manhattan College Saturday afternoon on Campus Field. The Pioneers scored five times in the third quarter to rally back from a 3-2 halftime deficit en route to their second-straight win.

    The Sacred Heart Pioneers are coming off a 13-12 upset at #15 ranked Yale as they welcome the Manhattan Jaspers to Campus Field on Saturday. The Pioneers snapped an 0-3 start to the season with their first ever win over the Bulldogs. The Jaspers are 1-3 on the year as well and were shut-out for the second time this season falling 11-0 at #2 Johns Hopkins on Tuesday night.
  • Pioneers Pull Off 13-12 Upset at #15 Yale

    The Sacred Heart men’s lacrosse team fell behind #15 ranked Yale 7-2 in the second quarter but stormed back with a 10-1 run on their way to a 13-12 upset win over the Bulldogs at Reese Stadium Tuesday night. Sophomore Mike Mawdsley (Innisfil, Ont.) led the charge with a career-high five goals to lead the Pioneers to their first win in 2012.

    The Sacred Heart Pioneers head to #15 ranked Yale University on Tuesday night in search of their first win of 2012. The Pioneers take on their second-straight Ivy League opponent after coming up short in an 11-10 loss at Dartmouth on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 2-0 and are coming off a 13-7 win at home over Albany on Saturday.

    Sacred Heart sophomore Mike Mawdsley (Innisfil, Ontario) tied his career-high with four goals but Dartmouth junior Chris Costabile and senior Drew Tunney combined for 10 goals and six assists to lead the Big Green to a 11-10 win Saturday afternoon on Scully-Fahey Field. The Pioneers drop to 0-3 to start the year while Dartmouth is now 2-0.

The Pioneers are off to an 0-2 start to the season with losses at Hofstra and at home to Marist on their ledger. The Big Green come in off a 9-6 win at #19 Colgate a week ago. SHU will head to #16 Yale on Tuesday night.
  • Late Rally Falls Short as Pioneers Beaten 12-10 by Marist

    The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team battled back from down seven goals in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter but came up short falling to Marist, 12-10, Sunday afternoon on Campus Field. The Red Foxes converted three-of-four man-up opportunities and got three goals from Jack Doherty in the win. The Pioneers fall to 0-2 to start the season with the loss.
