Pioneers Face-off Against Bentley Before Holiday Weekend
Dec. 20, 2006
The Game.... The Pioneer men's ice hockey team returns from their final exams break for a holiday weekend set against AHA rival Bentley. The teams meet Thursday and Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Milford Ice Pavilion. When they were last on the ice, the Pioneers skated to a pair of draws with Air Force in Colorado Springs. The Falcons lost a pair of games to Nebraksa-Omaha two weeks ago in the midwest. These are the only meetings meeting Bentley and Sacred Heart this season.
The Series... The Pioneers won three of four games from Bentley last year. The teams split a set in early November with each side winning at home. SHU took home two victories in separate meetings in January to earn the season series victory. The Falcons have at least one win over the Pioneers in each of the last four years. Sacred Heart leads the all-time series with Bentley 14-12-2.
Last Time Out... Prior to their time off, the Pioneers skated to two draws with Air Force in Colorado Springs. Friday night Alexandre Parent scored the game-tying goal with 1:24 left in regulation. Goaltender Jason Smith made 35 saves in each game to help the Pioneers garner a point in each game Freshman Dave Jarman had a goal, his fourth to lead all SHU rookies. Freshman Matt Gordon scored the Pioneer goal Saturday night. The Pioneers have now played four games against the two service academies (two vs Army and two vs Air Force) and each game has ended in a tie.
Up Next... The Pioneers will break for the holidays after this weekend's set. SHU will reconvene in 2007 and prepare for a game at Cornell on January 6th. The Pioneers and Big Red meet at Lynah Rink at 7:00 pm that Saturday night and coverage will be heard on WICC 600 AM.
