Fairfield, CT - Pioneers junior goaltender Jason Smith (St. Lambert, QC) has been named the Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week for the week of November 28th-December 4th. It's the second goalie of the week honor for Smith this season.
Smith turned in two of his best performances of the season this weekend as the Pioneers won two out of three games. In Tuesday's home win over Army, Smith needed to make just 16 saves to record his sixth victory of the season. Friday night in RPI, Smith put on a show, stopping 44 Engineer shots to give the Pioneers the chance to win, which they eventually did in overtime. Sunday, with the Pioneers struggling offensively against Army, Smith was able to stop 30 out of 32 Black Knight shots to give Sacred Heart a shot at a comeback that ultimately fell just short.
Smith has posted a 2.28 goals against, tops in Atlantic Hockey, in starting 12 of the Pioneers 13 games. That mark puts him 13th in the nation in goals against average. Smith's .923 save percentage ranks him 11th in the country in that category.
Smith and the Pioneers (8-4-1, 6-3-1 AH) are back in action Thursday night when they open a home-and-home series against UConn at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
