Pioneers Travel West to Visit AHA Newcomer Air Force

The Game... The Pioneers and Falcons meet for the first time as Atlantic Hockey rivals in a weekend set in Colorado Springs, their only two games this year. The teams meet at Cadet Ice Arena Friday night at 9:05 ET and Saturday at 9:35 ET. Coverage of both games can be heard on WICC 600 AM. The series will match the top two scorers in the league in Air Force's Eric Ehn, who leads the nation in scoring, and Sacred Heart's Pierre-Luc O'Brien. The Pioneers are coming off a weekend split with UConn while the Falcons beat Robert Morris Sunday.

The Series... This weekend marks the fifth and sixth all-time meetings between Sacred Heart and Air Force. The Falcons swept a two game series in Colorado Springs in 2000 and then beat the Pioneers in overtime in the first round of the 2004 RPI holiday tournament. In between, the teams skated to a 2-2 tie in the opening round of the UConn holiday tournament in 2003.

Last Time Out... The Pioneers split a series with UConn over the holiday weekend. The Huskies won the opener Saturday, 4-1, and the Pioneers came back to win the finale Sunday in Milford, 3-2 The win over UConn allowed the Pioneers to take sole possession of first place in the AHA standings. Freshman Matt Gordon scored the game winner Sunday afternoon, his first game-winner of his career. Soophomore Bear Trapp had two assists while senior Pierre-Luc O'Brien scored his team leading 11th goal.

Up Next... The Pioneers will enjoy some downtime after this weekend, as they have the next two weekends off. SHU will play two more games before breaking for the holidays as they host Bentley on Thursday and Friday, December 21st and 22nd, at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
