Fairfield, CT - The Pioneers men's ice hockey team meets the defending Atlantic Hockey champion Mercyhurst Lakers for the first time this season this weekend. The teams will skate Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 pm in Erie, PA. This weekend's two game set will decide first place in the conference standings at this early juncture of the season. The Lakers currently hold a one point lead over the Pioneers. Sacred Heart is coming off a two game sweep of American International last weekend while Merychurst split a pair with Holy Cross.
The Pioneer attack has been led by its top line, anchored by junior assistant captain Pierre-Luc O'Brien. He has a team high five goals, along with six assists, for 11 points, tying him for seventh place in the conference. Flanking O'Brien on one wing is sophomore Alexandre Parent who has a team high eight assists. After recording five assists in two games against AIC, Parent is now in fourth place in the conference in assists. On O'Brien's other side is freshman Bear Trapp, the reigning Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week. After scoring the game winning goals in both games against AIC, Trapp now has three goals and four assists.
