Setting the Scene... After a week off, Sacred Heart begins the second portion of their schedule as they face AIC in a home-and-home series this weekend. SHU lost three of four points to Army two weeks ago while AIC split with the Black Knights last weekend. The teams will meet Friday at the Olympia Ice Center and rematch Saturday in Milford. The puck drops both nights at 7:05 pm. Saturday's game can be heard on the Pioneer Radio Network.
The Series... Sacred Heart is unbeaten in its last eight meetings with AIC going 7-0-2. The Pioneers took three of four points from the Yellow Jackets in two games in Milford last year. SHU won a 3-2 decision Friday and the teams played to a 2-2 tie Saturday. The Pioneers are 18-8-5 all-time against AIC.
Pioneers Get The Point From Army... The Pioneers lost three of four points to Army over the weekend, falling in West Point on Friday and skating to a 3-3 tie Saturday in Milford. Junior Erik Boisvert led the offense with a goal and two assists. Freshman Matt Gingera had two assists for the second straight week and now has a four game point scoring streak. Senior Bear Trapp scored his first goal of the year in Friday's loss. Sophomore Corey Laurysen netted the game tying goal Saturday night for his first goal of the year.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets... The Yellow Jackets of AIC picked up their first victory of the season in last weekend's split with Army. Two rookies lead the attack for AIC with Michael Penny having scored a team-leading four goals along with two assists and six points on the year. Freshman Nielsson Arcibal has a goal and three assists on the season. Sophomore Dan Ramirez is back in net for the Yellow Jackets, his second season as starter. The goaltender has a 3.63 goals against average in his five starts. The Yellow Jackets attack has struggled, averaging just over a goal per game and scoring just three powerplay goals in 34 chances on the season.
Streaks and Trends... After finishing last year with the second ranked power play in the nation, SHU has struggled with the extra man this year, scoring just five times in 41 opportunities...The Pioneers have had 12 different players score their 12 goals and have 16 players with at least one point...Sophomores Chris Brown and Dave Berube both scored their first collegiate goals in the series against Army two weeks ago.
Schedule Stretch... The Pioneers will play seven games over the next three and a half weeks as they head towards the end of the fall semester. SHU will play two game series with AIC, Air Force and Holy Cross and a single game against UConn.
Up Next... The Pioneers hit the road next weekend for a trip to Colorado Springs and the Air Force Academy. The team's will meet at the Cadet Ice Arena on Friday at 9:05 ET and Saturday at 9:35 ET. Both games will be broadcast on the Pioneer Radio Network.
