Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart and Holy Cross renew one of Atlantic Hockey's most intense rivalries with a home and home set this weekend. The teams meet Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Milford Ice Pavilion and then will rematch Saturday night at 7:00 pm at the Hart Center in Worcester. Sacred Heart is coming off a weekend sweep of Mercyhurst, followed by a win over AIC Tuesday night in Springfield. Holy Cross swept a pair of games from Canisius last weekend in Worcester.
The Series... Sacred Heart won the season series from Holy Cross 3-1 last year. The teams split a pair of games in January and then swept a pair of games on the second-to-last weekend of the season, including an overtime victory in Worcester in the series opener. Holy Cross leads the all-time series 14-9-1.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers made an early season statement, sweeping preseason favorite Mercyhurst in a two game series over the weekend at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The Pioneers won 6-4 Friday night and then used a comeback for the ages to win 5-4 in overtime Saturday. In Saturday's game, the Pioneers scored four goals in the final four minutes to tie it and then Alexandre Parent scored the game winner in overtime. Tuesday night the Pioneers beat AIC, 5-2, behind a goal and two assists each from O'Brien and Bear Trapp.
Up Next... The Pioneers move out of conference next weekend when they travel to New York's capital districit to face ECACHL member Rensseleaer. SHU beat RPI last season in Troy, their first ever win over an ECAC school. The Pioneer and Engineers will meet Friday night at Houston Field House.
