Pioneers Travel to Buffalo to Face-off with Canisius

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers and Griffins meet early in the season for the second straight year. This is SHU's second conference game while its Canisius' first contest within the AHA this year. The Pioneer posted a tie and a loss in their first weekend of action, falling to UMass in the opener before skating to a 2-2 tie against Army in the first Atlantic Hockey game of the year.

The Series... Sacred Heart swept the four game series from Canisius last year. The Pioneers swept two games at the Milford Ice Pavilion in the first conference weekend of the year and then went to Buffalo in January and won two more games from the Golden Griffs. Pierre-Luc O'Brien scored four goals in the series while Peter Giatrelis found the back of the net three times. Jason Smith posted a shutout in the second game in Milford. Canisius still leads the all time series with SHU 13- 11-1.

Last Time Out... The Pioneers dropped their season opener to UMass, 3-2, Friday night before rebounding to tie Army, 2-2 on Saturday in their Atlantic Hockey Opener. Peter Ferraro was the top Pioneer performer of the weekend, scoring two goals, while freshman Nick Johnson made an impressive debut in his rookie season, registering a goal and an assist. Stefan Drew made the most of his first start, registering 29 saves Saturday night to earn the Pioneers a draw with the Black Knights.
