Former SHU Goalie Invited to Attend Detroit Red Wings Camp

Fairfield, CT - Former Pioneers goaltender, Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, Quebec), has been invited to attend the Detroit Red Wings training camp, which opens on September 10 in Traverse City, MI. He will also attend training camp with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Red Wings. In addition, LaPointe has signed a contract this week to play professionally for the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League.

LaPointe graduated from Sacred Heart University in May with a degree in Finance and he was a member of the 2003-04 and 2004-05 Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Teams.

Over his career with the Pioneers, LaPointe played in 71 games with a career save percentage of .902 and a goals against average of 3.08.

"He was an integral player on our team over the past four years," men's ice hockey head coach Shaun Hannah said. "In 2003-04, he was instrumental in leading the team to its first appearance in the Atlantic Hockey Association championship game."
