Fairfield, CT - Former Sacred Heart goaltender Jason Smith has signed with the Lowell Devils, the AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils. The announcement was made today by Lowell Devils General Manager Chris Lamoriello.

Smith, spent the entire 2007-08 season with Trenton of the ECHL, where he tied Caruso for the team lead with 13 victories and two shutouts. The 6-1, 195-lb. goaltender joined the organization after a four-season collegiate career at Sacred Heart. While with the Pioneers, Smith was a First Team All-Atlantic Hockey sekection following his junior and senior seasons. He finished his career as the Pioneers' all-time leader in goaltender victories.

Smith was New Jersey's fifth choice, and 197th overall selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was born July 17, 1985 in St. Lambert, Que.

"I was very excited to hear that Jason signed again with Lowell for the upcoming season and that he is going to be able to continue his hockey career at the professional level," Sacred Heart head coach Shaun Hannah said.

Smith joins former Pioneer captain Alexandre Parent on the list of Sacred Heart players who have signed to play professionally during the upcoming season.
