Fairfield, CT - Former Sacred Heart men's ice hockey captain Alexandre Parent (Boisbriand, QC) has signed a contract with the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL to play during the 2008-09 season. Parent finshed his SHU career as the school's all-time leader in games played and ranks fifth all-time in goals, second in points, and second in assists.
"Alex is a very skilled, focused, first-year pro," said Sea Wolves head coach Steffon Walby. "He had a lot of teams heavily recruiting him. He decided to sign with the Sea Wolves and come to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and that says a lot about our fans and our strong program."
"I was thrilled to learn of Alex's signing with Mississippi and very excited to know that he will be able to continue his hockey career as a professional," SHU head coach Shaun Hannah said. "As he did when he was at Sacred Heart, I expect he will make a significant contribution on the ice and in the community with the Seawolves."
As a senior, Parent recorded his best season, scoring 19 goals and adding 21 assists. He earned First Team All-Atlantic Hockey honors for his performance. In four seasons with the Pioneers, Parent scored 54 goals and 87 assists for 141 points in 144 games. He was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association's All-Academic Team in each of his four seasons.
