June 20, 2006
Fairfield, CT - Sacred Heart University head men's ice hockey coach Shaun Hannah has announced the team captains for the forthcoming 2006-07 season. Senior Pierre-Luc O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) will wear the traditional captains' "C" on his sweater while juniors Alexandre Parent (Boisbriand, QC) and Scott Marchesi (South Portland, ME) will wear the assistants' "A".
O'Brien centered the Pioneers top line in 2005-06, scoring 19 goals and handing out 31 assists for a team high 50 points on the season. He set a school record for points and assists in a single season with those marks. O'Brien led the AHA in scoring for the regular season and was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week three times. His play earned him an Atlantic Hockey first team all-conference selection.
Parent played beside O'Brien on the top line and was third on the team in scoring, tallying 11 goals and 27 assists for a total of 38 points. He finished the year tied for sixth in the league in assists, and earned second team All-AHA honors.
Marchesi will be one of two seniors returning to lead the Pioneer defense corps. Last year he contributed to the Pioneer attack, scoring four goals and adding nine assists for 13 points. He was also a valuable part of the Pioneer penalty kill, playing on the top unit.
