Alex Parent Named 2008 CoSIDA District I Academic All-American

Fairfield, CT - Senior Alexandre Parent (Boisbriand, QC) has been named to the 2008 CoSIDA Academic All-American District I At-Large team. The captain of the Sacred Heart men's ice hockey was a second-team selection.

Parent graduated from Sacred Heart in May with a Bachelor's Degree in business and is currently working to complete his Master's degree as well. He has been a three time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team.

On the ice, Parent was a three time All-Atlantic Hockey Award winner. As a freshman in 2004-2005 he was named to the league's All-Rookie team and garnered second team All-League honors during his sophomore season. In the recently completed 2007-08 season, Parent was named first team All-AHA and was the recepient of the league's Individual Sportsmanship Award for his outstanding conduct on the ice.

Parent led the Pioneers in scoring this year with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points on the year. He finished his SHU career with 87 assists putting him second in SHU history. He also has 141 career points, good for third place in school history.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects the Academic All-America At-Large team out of a pool of student-athletes from the following sports: women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.
