FAIRFIELD, CT (May 17) - Sacred Heart University head men's ice hockey coach Shaun Hannah has announced the team captains for the forthcoming 2005-06 season. Senior Noel Henck (Long Beach, NY) will wear the traditional captains' "C" on his sweater while fellow senior Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn, MI) and junior Pierre-Luc O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) will wear the assistants' "A".
Henck, who is in his fifth year of eligibility, was an anchor on the blue line for the Pioneers last season, as he skated in 33 contests registering a pair of assists for two points on the season. His veteran presence will lead an experienced and deep group of seven returning defensemen.
Molinaro, who is one of the best face-off men in the conference, played in all 35 games last season, scoring six goals and tying a career high with 16 assists for 22 points on the year. His playmaking and face-off skills will be a key cog in the Sacred Heart scoring engine.
O'Brien, a consensus Atlantic Hockey first team all-conference selection in 2004-05, lit the lamp 18 times and handed out 17 assists for a team high 35 points on the season. A two-time Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week selection and the October selection for New England Hockey Journal Player of the Month, O'Brien finished the regular season fourth nationally in power play goals scored, with 13 extra-man strikes.
