April 7, 2010

Patrick Knowlton (Colorado Springs, CO) will serve as the captain of the 2010-11 Pioneer men's ice hockey team as announced today by head coach C.J. Marottolo. Evan Mladenoff (Leawood, KS) and Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) will also wear letters next season as assistant captains.

Knowlton was third on the team in scoring last season posting 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 total points.  He also scored arguably the biggest goal in SHU history last year, propelling the Pioneers to the Atlantic Hockey championship game with a game winning goal against Air Force in the semifinals with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation.  Knowlton played in 37 of Sacred Heart's 38 games last year and 95 so far in his collegiate career.

Delong, who will serve as one of two assistant captains, led all Atlantic Hockey rookies last season with 35 points on 15 goals and 20 assists.  To conclude his freshman season he netted the Pioneers only goal in the AHA championship game.  Mladenoff, the squads other assistant captain, posted six goals last season playing in 37 SHU games.  Mladenoff has played in 107 contests in his career with 12 goals.
