Three Pioneers Named First Team All-AHA

Rochester, NY - Seniors Pierre-Luc O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) and Jason Smith (St. Lambert, QC) and junior Scott Marchesi (South Portland, ME) all were named to the All-Atlantic Hockey First Team Thursday night. The awards were presented at the AHA Awards banquet on the eve of the conference final four in Rochester, NY.

O'Brien grabbed first team honors for the third straight year after leading the Pioneers in scoring during the regular season. Those numbers put him third in the league in scoring and fourth in assists. He piled up 43 points, including 16 goals and 27 assists. After a 23 point November, O'Brien earned HCA/CSTV Player of the Month Honors. He was also selected as an alternate for the Frozen Four Skills Competition.

Smith turned in the fourth best goals against average in Atlantic Hockey, posting a 2.72 mark. He guided the Pioners through an unbeaten December, allowing just one goal in five straight games, That hotstretch earned him Honorable Mention Player of the Month honors. Smith will participate in the Frozen Four Skills Competition in St. Louis.

Marchesi was one half of the Pioneers' top defensive combination. As one of the top offensive defensmen in the league, he posted five goals and 13 assists for 18 total points. Marchesi is an assistant captain for Sacred Heart and plays on all special teams as well as at even strength.

The Pioneers will take on Air Force in the AHA semifinals Friday at Blue Cross Arena. Face-off is set for 4:00 pm.
