FAIRFIELD, CT (February 14) - Senior men's ice hockey goaltender Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QC) has been named the Sacred Heart University Student Athlete of the Week for the week of February 7th through 14th. He also picked up Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the week honors.
LaPointe backstopped the Pioneers in two of their three conference victories during the week, posting road victories over both Army and Holy Cross. Tuesday night versus Army, LaPointe stopped 29 shots to keep the Pioneers in the game long enough for the offense to kick in, as SHU netted a pair of goals in the third period to come from behind and steal a win from Army, 2-1. Then on Friday night, LaPointe kept an aggressive Holy Cross team at bay, stopping 33 shots in leading the Pioneers to their first road win over Holy Cross since the 1999-2000 season.
LaPointe, along with the entire men's ice hockey team, returns to action this weekend for a pair of crucial Atlantic Hockey games. Friday night the Pioneers will host Holy Cross at the Milford Ice Pavilion before heading up I-91 to face off with the A.I.C. Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
