Larson Receives National Award, Named U.S.C.H.O. Offensive Player-of-the-Week
Feb. 5, 2004
FAIRFIELD, CT (February 5, 2004) - Sacred Heart junior forward Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) was named U.S. College Hockey Online Offensive Player-of-the-Week for his efforts this past weekend as the Pioneers swept UConn over the weekend. He is the first Atlantic Hockey player to receive either the U.S.C.H.O. Offensive or Defensive Player-of-the-Week award this season.
Larson was also named Atlantic Hockey Player-of-the-Week and Sacred Heart Athlete-of-the-Week after exploding for a big weekend against Connecticut, scoring five goals and one assist on the weekend, with three of his goals scored on the power play.
He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added one assist in a 4-2 Pioneers win on Friday night. He followed that performance by recording his first hat trick of the season, which included two power play goals, and scored the goal that gave Sacred Heart the lead for good the following night at UConn. It was the second hat trick of his SHU career.
He is now tied for third in the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 14 points.
"Garrett's made big contributions for us in the past and struggled a little in the early part of the season, but he was doing all of the little things that you need to do to score goals," says Pioneers head coach Shaun Hannah. "He's a talented player and it was nice to see him pull things together against Connecticut over the weekend."
