Nick Johnson Named Walter Brown Award Semifinalist

Feb. 1, 2010

Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) of the men's ice hockey team has been selected one of 16 semifinalists for the Walter Brown award, honoring the best American-born college hockey player in New England.  Johnson has already broken the SHU single season goal record, at the division I level, this season with 21 goals in 2009-10.  Of the semifinalists just Johnson and Marc Menzione of Bentley are from Atlantic Hockey.

The Walter Brown Award is the oldest nationally recognized honor accorded to individual players in the sport of American college hockey. Brown coached the United States to its first world hockey championship in 1933.

The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston is responsible for choosing the semifinalists and eventually the award winner.  They will announce the finalists and winner of the 58th Walter Brown Award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of NCAA Tournament play.
