Senior Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) earned his second player of the week award this season as he won the award for games through January 24. The Pioneer forward netted three goals and two assists as the Pioneers earned three points in a conference series with Canisius. Johnson currently leads the conference and ranks second in the nation with 18 goals.
Johnson, who has 32 points this season, posted five points in a win and a tie against Canisius over the weekend. His performance propelled the longest unbeaten streak in the nation and school history to nine games at 7-0-2.
In the series opener Johnson scored the Pioneers first goal at the end of hte first period to tie the game at one just befoe the first intermission. He also notched the empty net game winning goal to seal the SHU victory Friday night with 24 seconds remaining in regulation. Johnson also posted the first Pioneer goal Saturday night in a 5-5 tie. The senior also earned assists on Sacred Heart’s second and third goals, both coming in the first period.
The Pioneers will look to continue their unbeaten streak Tuesday night as they take on the AIC Yellow Jackets on the road at 7:05 pm.
