Senior Alexandre Parent (Boisbriand, QC) and junior Bear Trapp (Balcarres, SK) have been nominated for this year's Hobey Baker Award, presented to the most outstanding player in college hockey. For Trapp, it's the junior forwards second-straight season being nominated for the prestigious award.

The highly popular fan-voting phase is now open by visiting the Hobey Baker website: HobeyBaker.com. Click on the Vote for Hobey Baker icon and follow the prompts to make your selection from this year's outstanding crop of college hockey players.

The captain of this year's team, Parent currently leads the team in goal scoring, with eight on the season. He also has 10 assists for 18 points on the year, second most on the squad. The senior has 76 career assists, just one shy of third all-time in Sacred Heart history. A three-year member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team, Parent was named to the AHA-All Rookie team as a freshman and was second team All-Atlantic Hockey as a sophomore.

Trapp leads the Pioneers in scoring this year, with six goals and fourteen assists, 20 points, on the season. Trapp was a Hobey Baker nominee last season as well when he was second on the team with 40 points. Trapp's scoring prowess has led him to pile up 103 points in just two and half seasons as a Pioneer. He has scored 39 goals and added 64 assists in his career.

This first phase of fan balloting will run now through March 9, 2008. Phase two of fan balloting will then begin on March 20 from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists. The fans' vote accounts for a full 1% of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient.

Award criteria include candidates mimicking the superlative character traits put forth by the award's namesake, Hobey Baker, a World War I flying star better known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day. Award candidates must exhibit strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
