Setting the Scene... The Pioneers meet AHA newcomer RIT in a two game series at the Milford Ice Pavilion during which the top two teams in the standings will be on display. Face-off Friday and Saturday nights is set for 7:00 pm. Starting the weekend, the Pioneers have a three point lead over RIT, although the Tigers have two games in hand. SHU is coming off a 3-1 win over AIC Tuesday night in Springfield while RIT beat Canisius 6-3 Tuesday night in Rochester.
The Series... This is the second all-time meeting between RIT and Sacred Heart. In last year's game, defenseman Bernie Chmiel scored one goal and added three assists, and the Pioneers top power play unit clicked for five goals as Sacred Heart outlasted RIT 8-5.
Pioneers Sting Yellow Jackets... Junior Alexandre Parent and sophomore Bear Trapp each had a goal and an assist as Sacred Heart scored three goals in a 3:45 span across the second and third periods for a 3-1 win over American International Tuesday night at the Olympia Ice Center. Senior Pierre-Luc O'Brien assisted on the last two SHU goals, giving him 81 career assists and 144 career points, setting new school records in each category. The win was the fourth in a row for the Pioneers, who are now unbeaten in seven straight games, and are 11-1-3 in their last 14 games.
Hobey Nominees... Senior Pierre-Luc O'Brien and sophomore Bear Trapp have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, presented to the most outstanding player in college hockey. Fans now have the opportunity to select their favorite candidate for the list of top ten finalists on the new Hobey Baker Award website, www.hobeybaker.com.Voting in phase one will end on March 4.
