Fairfield, CT - Pioneers junior goaltender Jason Smith (St. Lambert, QC) has been named the Atlantic Hockey goalie of the week for the week of January 2nd-8th. It's the third time this season that Smith has garnered top goaltender honors.
Smith was once again solid in goal, anchoring the Pioneers to two wins in their three games this week. Tuesday against Bentley Smith made 29 saves and allowed just one goal. Against Holy Cross on Friday he made 30 saves to keep the game even until the third period when Sacred Heart scored two goals to win the game. Saturday night in Worcester Smith made 33 saves to keep the Pioneers within one goal, although they ultimately fell 3-2. Smith has now posted a 10-7-1 record in playing in 18 of the Pioneers 20 games. He has posted a .930 save percentage and a 2.13 goals against average, 6th best and 10th best in the nation, respectively.
Smith and the Pioneers (11-8-1, 8-6-1 AHA) travel to Buffalo, NY this weekend for a pair of contests against Atlantic Hockey foe Canisius. Game time is set for 7:00 pm Friday and Saturday nights at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
