Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Colgate
Dec. 12, 2003
BRIDGEPORT, CT (December 12, 2003) - The Pioneers men's ice hockey team lost to Colgate 7-2 to fall to 4-8-1 on the season. Anthony Masotto (Edin Prairie, MN) had one goal and two assists on a night that saw seven different goal scorers for the Raiders.
Colgate's Jon Smyth (Markham, ON) got the Raiders on the board at 13:39 of the first period and his team never looked back from there. Rob Brown (Brockville, ON) scored what would be the game-winning goal at 15:09 of the second period.
Sacred Heart finally got on the board with 2:25 remaining in the second frame when Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) made a nice move to fake out Colgate goaltender David Cann (Brampton, ON) and deposit the puck in the open net, making it a 4-1 game.
The Pioneers were behind 6-1 when Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QC) scored on the power play to pull Sacred Heart back to within four goals at 6-2. That was as close as they would get however as Kyle Doyle (Sarnia, ON) closed out the scoring with 1:35 remaining in the game.
Cann needed to make just 12 saves in recording his second win of the season. Kevin LaPointe (Quebec, QC) made 28 saves in taking the loss, which ended a personal five game unbeaten streak. Sacred Heart was out shot 35-14 in the game
The Pioneers will return to the ice on December 28th when they compete at the UConn Hockey Classic against Air Force at 2:00 PM. The Pioneers will be in action again the following day against either Bentley or UConn.
