Men's Hockey Skates to 2-2 Tie at Bentley
Dec. 5, 2003
WATERTOWN, MA - Sophomore Paul Markarian tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season for Bentley College at 8:03 of the third period to send the game into overtime as the Falcons and Sacred Heart University skated to a 2-2 tie in Atlantic Hockey men's hockey action Friday night.
With the Falcons trailing 2-1 in the middle of the final frame, Markarian, parked in front of the Pioneers net, tipped home a shot taken by teammate Seth Vinocur to knot the game and eventually send in into overtime.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frame.
Bentley jumped to the early lead when freshman John Hooks netted his third of the season. The first-year forward collected the puck on the end line and was able to poke a shot over Sacred Heart goalie Kevin LaPointe.
Bentley's lead was short lived as the Pioneers reeled off two goals before the end of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Senior Mike Reagan put a shot on Bentley goaltender Simon St. Pierre, and the Pioneers jumped in front at 17:10 on freshman Peter Ferraro's rebound score. St. Pierre made the save on the initial shot, but the rebound found Ferraro's stick for a 2-1 Pioneer lead.
St. Pierre made 32 stops for Bentley and LaPointe 29 for the Pioneers. The Pioneers improved to 4-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Falcons are now 1-9-3 overall and 0-4-3 in conference play.
