Niagara, NY - Egor Mironov scored the game winning goal 9:43 into the third period and Adam Avramenko made 29 saves as Niagara held on to defeat Sacred Heart 3-1, Saturday night at Dwyer Arena. The win extends Niagara's home ice winning streak to a nation-best 22 games.
The Purple Eagles scored two goals on the powerplay. Ted Cook got Niagara started with 4:45 left in the second period by converting a 5-on-3 opportunity for his fourth goal of the year.
Sophomore Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) tied the game with 1:13 left in the second period. Erik Boisvert (Drummondville, QC) and Gregg Rodriguez (Sunnyvale, CA) assisted on Johnson's fourth goal of the year.
The game winner was set-up when Vince Rocco found Mironov in the slot with a centering pass. Mironov fired a one-timer past SHU goaltender Oliver St. Onge (Wickham, QC) for the deciding tally. Rocco tallied an empty-net goal with 14 seconds left to ice the game for Niagara.
St. Onge was strong in just his second collegiate game. The rookie made 35 saves in the game.
The Pioneers travel to Mercyhurst next weekend for a two game series. The teams meet Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 pm at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
