BUFFALO, NY (November 13) - The Canisius Golden Griffins ended the Pioneers undefeated run in Atlantic Hockey downing the first place Pioneers 4-1 on Saturday night.
The Pioneers, now 4-6-0 (4-1-0 Atlantic Hockey), fell behind early, giving up the first goal, this time a power play goal to Joel Kitchen at the 5:44 mark in the first period. After a penalty riddled middle of the stanza, the Pioneers pulled even at the 17:52 mark. Chris Connerty (Rayham, MA) picked up his second goal of the season beating Canisius goalie Bryan Worosz. Rocco Molinaro (Deerborn, MI) and Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) picked up assists on the play.
Canisius would fire back before the first period ended, scoring the eventual game winner just :48 later for a 2-1 lead.
The Griffins would then add a second period goal before finishing off the Pioneers with an empty net goal.
Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QC) finished the night making 22 saves in taking the loss. Worosz made 17 stops for Canisius.
Sacred Heart returns to aciton on Tuesday, November 23 when they host cross-state rival, and Atlantic Hockey foe Quinnipiac at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Face off is at 7:00 PM.
