Watertown, MA - Junior Tom Dickhudt scored the game winning goal with 37 seconds left in regulation to spark Bently to a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart in men's ice hockey action Tuesday night at Ryan Arena. The loss was the SHU's first Atlantic Hockey defeat of the season.
With the Falcons on the power play, Menzione led the game winning rush up ice into the Pioneer zone. As he came to the goalmouth, Menzione fed the puck through the crease where Dickhaut redirected it into the top of the goal for the game-winner.
The Pioneers jumped on the board first. With 5:21 left in the first period. Sophomore Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) led a 2-on-1 break with junior Bear Trapp (Balcarres, SK). Johnson carried the puck down the left side and fed a pass across to Trapp. Trapp delayed just a second and then snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Falcon goaltender Joe Calvi to put SHU on the board.
Freshman Dustin Cloutier tied the game for Bentley midway through the second period. Just as Cloutier completed serving a penalty, he jumped into a flurry of activity in front of the Pioneer net. After a shot by Brendan Harrison was stopped, Cloutier came in and pounded the rebound into the back of the net.
Dain Prewitt added an empty net goal to seal the game for Bentley.
The penalty-filled contest saw Bentley go 1-for-7 on the power play while the Pioneers went 0-for-6 with the man advantage. Bentley out shot Sacred Heart 40-29 for the game. Falcon goaltender Joe Calvi made 28 saves for the victor while junior Stefan Drew (Oakbank, MB) stopped 37 shots for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart is back in action next weekend when they travel to Niagara for a two game series. The series opens on Friday November 16 at 7:05 pm.
