Storrs, CT - Sophomore Matt Gordon (Lynnfield, MA) scored two goals and junior Stefan Drew (Oakbank, MB) made 25 saves in goal to earn his first shutout of the season as Sacred Heart completed a weekend sweep of UConn, 5-0, Saturday night at Freitas Ice Forum.
After a scorless first period, the Pioneers took control of the game early in the second period with two goals in a 26 second span. First junior Bear Trapp (Balcarres, SK) converted a power play goal at the 4:07 mark. Then Gordon scored his first of the night at the 4:33 mark. Freshmen David Berube (Quebec, QC) and Adam DeJong (Kitchener, ON) both earned assists on the gola. For Berube it was his first collegiate point.
The Pioneers scored another pair of goals in quick succession early in the third period to put the game away. At the 8:34 mark Dave Jarman (Toronto, ON) scored on a pass from Eric Giosa (Detroit, MI). Just 18 seconds later, Gordon netted his second goal of the night. Junior Paul Ferraro (Pleasantville, NY) capped the scoring for SHU with 5:58 to go in the game.
