MILFORD, CT (October 16) -Sophomore forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) scored twice and senior goaltender Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QC) made 29 saves to lead the Pioneers to a 4-1 victory, over Atlantic Hockey foe, Army at the Milford Ice Pavilion on Saturday night.
O'Brien opened the scoring on the Pioneers first power play opportunity. Freshman Alexandre Parent (Boisbraind, QC) hit Peter Ferraro (Pleasantville, NY) with an up ice pass, Ferraro then hit a streaking O'Brien who skated down the left wing and sent a shot past Army goaltender Brad Roberts at the 7:45 mark for an early 1-0 lead.
O'Brien would score the eventual game-winner and double the Pioneers lead to 2-0, when he would convert a feed from Parent and Kalen Wright (Candle Lake, SK) at 6:54 in the second period for his second power play goal of the night. Wright would then score one of his own on the power play, on an assist from Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) at the 9:03 mark. The Pioneers would then run the score to 4-0 when freshman defenseman Scott Marchesi (South Portland, ME) sent a screaming slap shot from the blue line, off the inside of the post and in. O'Brien and Parent picked up assists on the goal, the third point for each of them on the game.
Army turned up the offensive pressure in the third period, registering half of their 30 shots on goal during that frame. The Sacred Heart defense was up to the task until the Army's Aaron Anderson capitalized on a scrum in front of the SHU net, depositing the puck past LaPointe for Army's lone goal.
With the win Sacred Heart level's their record at 1-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Atlantic Hockey. The Pioneers return to action on Saturday October 23 when they host American International College at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 5:00 PM.
