Milford, CT - Junior Luke Flicek had two goals and an assist and Josh Kassel made 27 saves in goal as Army beat Sacred Heart 4-2 in men's ice hockey action Saturday night, spoiling Senior Night, at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
For the second straight night, Army jumped on top first with a power play goal. With 5:33 left in the first period, freshman Owen Meyer netted his 12th goal of the year on a rebound. Senior Casey Bickley took the initial shot that was stopped by Jason Smith (St. Lambert, QC), but Meyer was able to pound home the bouncing loose puck.
Just 26 seconds after Army scored, the Pioneers answered to tie the game. Freshman Nick Johnson (Windsor, CT) took a head-long pass from senior Charles Veilleux (Quebec City, QC), carried the puck into the offensive zone, switched to his backhand and slid the puck around the backside of Josh Kassel. Senior Todd Spencer (Brentwood, NH) also had an assist on Johnson's fourth goal of the year.
The Black Knights took the lead back with 3:58 left in the first. Senior Brady Dolim fed junior Jeff Fearing a pass from the corner and Fearing snapped a shot that beat Smith for his fourth goal of the year.
Sophomore Kyle Tyll (Sandy Hook, CT) got the Pioneers even again at the 5:01 mark of the second period. After his first shot was stopped by Kassell, Tyll stayed aggressive on the play and whacked home the rebound for his sixth goal of the year.
Junior Luke Flicek put Army on top again with 1:12 left in the second period. Meyer dug a loose puck out of the corner in the offensive zone and dumped the puck to Flicek in the slot and he one-timed it past Smith for his 15th goal of the year.
Flicek scored the only goal of the third period on the power play at the 3:55 mark. Meyer dug a loose puck out in the corner of the offensive zone and fed Flicek a perfect centering pass and he on-timed the puck past Smith.
