Final Stats

Storrs, CT - Senior forward Cole Koidahl tallied a game-high three points as UConn recorded a weekend sweep of Sacred Heart with a 4-1 victory over the Pioneers Saturday night at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

With the win, the Huskies earned their first home-and-home sweep since UConn knocked off the same Pioneers Dec. 8-9 of last season. UConn has also now defeated in-state rival Sacred Heart in eight of the last 10 meetings.

Sacred Heart (15-9-4, 12-6-4 AHA) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Pierre-Luc O'Brien (Nicolet, QC) netted his 14th goal of the season. After consecutive passes from Dave Grimson (Mozart, SK) and Bear Trapp (Regina SK), O'Brien connected with a slap shot for the only goal of the opening period. The goal was the 65th of O'Brien's career, tying the school record.

UConn (11-16-1, 11-10-1 AHA) responded just over five minutes into the second period as sophomore Chris Myhro notched his team-leading 16th goal of the season. After Koidahl controlled the puck after a faceoff, he slid the puck to his right to junior Charles Solberg. Solberg in turn delivered the puck to Myhro who made a move to separate himself from his defender, and flicked the puck with his wrist into the upper right corner of the Pioneer net.

Minutes later, senior Trevor Stewart put the Huskies up for good with his eighth goal of the season. After fellow senior Jarrett Scarpaci's was blocked and deflected directly towards Stewart, Stewart wasted no time in blasting the loose puck past Pioneer goaltender Stefan Drew (Dugald, MB). Freshman Alec Kirschner was also credited with an assist on the goal.

With just over three minutes remaining in the third period, Koidahl would tally his 100th career point and provide the Huskies with some breathing room in the process. After controlling a loose puck in the defensive zone, Solberg started the attack with a pass upward towards Myhro. Now skating two on one in the offensive zone, Myhro feed dished the puck to his right where Koidahl slapped a shot past Drew to give UConn a 3-1 advantage.

Koidahl struck again at the 18:00 minute mark as he scored UConn's league-leading sixth short-handed goal of the season. After skating to a loose puck inside the Husky offensive zone, Koidahl laced a shot from inside the faceoff circle into the top left corner of the Pioneer net.

Freshman goaltender Beau Erickson notched his sixth victory after allowing just one goal while collecting 35 saves. He held the Pioneer offense scoreless for the final 47:03 minutes of the game.

The Pioneers travel to Erie, PA next weekend to visit Merychurst in a weekend series. The teams meet Friday and Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm and coverage can be heard on WICC 600 AM
