Milford, CT - Sophomore Eric Giosa (Northville, MI) and freshman Dave Jarman (Toronto, ON) each had a goal and assist as Sacred Heart scored three goals in the final period to post a 5-2 win over Canisius in men's ice hockey action Friday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

After a scoreless first period, Giosa scored a power play goal 1:22 into the second to open the scoring. Defenseman Dave Grimson (Mozart, SK) carried the puck up the ice and into the zone and fed a perfect centering pass to Giosa. Giosa needed only to redirect the puck into the net for his 10th goal of the year.

Canisius tied the game 3:12 into the second period on a power play goal by David Kasch. Senior Joe Coccimiglio fed Kasch a centering pass and Kasch snapped a shot over the glove of Jason Smith (St. Lambert, QC).

The Pioneers went back on top at th 5:54 mark when junior Scott Marchesi (Candle Lake, SK) blasted a shot from the blue line that beat Andrew Loewen. However the Griffs responded again, tying the game on a power play goal with 10:06 left in the second. Senior Michael Cohen showed off some fancy moves, including a spin move to get open at the top of the face-off circle and beat Smith with a wrist shot. It was Cohen's eighth goal of the year and meant the game would be tied at 2 going into the final period.

Jarman scored what turned out to be the game winning goal 1:59 into the third period. After Loewen made a save on a shot by Corey Laurysen (Ottawa, ON), Jarman followed the play and pounded home the rebound for his fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore Paul Ferraro (Pleasantville, NY) gave the Pioneers a two goal lead at the 6:51 mark of the third. Ferraro took a pass from Jarman and blasted a shot from the right point that went past Loewen and into the back of the net. It was the first goal of Ferraro's career. Seven minutes later, Paul's brother, Peter Ferraro (Pleasantville, NY) netted his fourth goal of the year to finish the scoring.

The Pioneers controlled much of the play, especially in the first and third periods, out shooting the Griffins 35-23 for the game. Loewen made 30 saves for Canisius while Smith made 21 saves to earn the win for Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers and Griffins close out their series Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm
