Men's Hockey Heads To Bentley For First Road Series And First Conference Series

Setting the Scene...The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team begins Atlantic Hockey League play this weekend as they face off against Bentley for the team's first road series of the year.

Last Time Out...The Pioneers tied #5 Providence 2-2 at home on Oct. 20. Providence scored twice in the first period, at 4:07 and 11:56, and controlled play for most of the opening stanza. The Pioneers cut their deficit in half, midway through the second as Jason Cotton tipped a shot by Mike Lee into the net.

Austin McIlmurray, who almost tied the score early in the third period, provided the equalizer with 2:46 to play. Marc Johnstone wrapped the puck around the back of the net for Matt Tugnutt who passed it across the crease to McIlmurray who knocked it home to the glove side.

Last Meeting...The Pioneers defeated Bentley in its last matchup that occurred on January 16, 2018. SHU pulled a four-goal showing as Vito Bavaro, Jason Cotton and Ruslan Rakhmatov along with Matt Tugnutt found the back of the net in the 4-2 victory. Goalie Brett Magnus also had a big night tallying 40 saves and allowing just two goals.

Scouting The Falcons... The Falcons are coming are coming into the 2018-19 season after concluding the 2017-18 season by falling in the first round of Atlantic League Hockey tournament Robert Morris two games to one. The team returns 21 players including the teams second leaders in goals from last season Jonathan Desbiens and Luke Santerno. Both tallied 12 goals for the Falcons last season. The Falcons were picked to finish two slots ahead of SHU at number eight in the Atlantic Hockey Preseason Poll.
