FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey freshman Marc Johnstone was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team on Monday.
Johnstone recorded 10 goals and 22 assists in conference play during the regular season which is tied for the league lead among rookies. He is the first Pioneer to earn All-Rookie Team honors since Justin Danforth and Mitch Nylen '17 were selected back in 2013-14.
The forward has recorded six multi-point games this season and ranks second among Atlantic Hockey rookies in total point scoring and tied for first in goals. Overall, he is second on the team with 29 points and tied for team lead with 17 assists. His point output is the most by a freshman since 2013-14 when Danforth recorded 29 points.
Johnstone recorded three assists in the Pioneers 6-4 upset win over fifth-ranked Notre Dame on October 19. He also registered a two-goal game on two occasions, in a 3-3 tie against Air Force on November 25 and a 5-3 win at Niagara on February 10.
He registered two goals and one assist in the Pioneers first-round series win over RIT this past weekend to advance to the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals. Johnstone recorded his two tallies in the first two games before assisting on the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 win.
Johnstone and the Pioneers will travel to one-seed Mercyhurst this weekend for the quarterfinal series beginning Friday, March 9.
Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team
