FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart men's ice hockey freshman Marc Johnstone earned his third Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week honors after picking up two points in the Pioneers 3-3 overtime tie against Army West Point.
Johnstone tied things up at 2-2 with his assist on Zach Tsekos one-timer at 4:16 in the second period. The rookie later picked up the breakaway goal at 7:58 in the second for his seventh tally of the season. Both teams settled for a point in the first collegiate hockey game at NYCB Live, home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
He is currently tied for the team lead with 19 points and leads AHA freshmen in points and goals with seven on the season. Johnstone also sits fifth nationally in freshman scoring with .95 points per game.
The Pioneers travel to Bentley tonight in the first meeting of the season between the two Atlantic Hockey rivals. Puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m. at the John A. Ryan Skating Arena.
