Men's Hockey Wraps Up Regular Season With Home Series Against UConn

Game Notes

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with two games against UConn at Milford Ice Pavilion. Sacred Heart still has an outside shot at hosting a first-round playoff series, entering the weekend three points behind eighth-place Holy Cross. 

Last Time Out... Sacred Heart finished off a season sweep of Bentley last Saturday, beating the Falcons 5-2 at John A. Ryan Arena. The Pioneers scored the first three goals of the game before Bentley cut the deficit to one, 3-2, heading into the third period.

All-Time vs. UConn... The Huskies lead the all-time series with Sacred Heart 28-25-5. The Pioneers are 2-2-2 in their last six conference games against UConn, including a 3-0 shutout at the UConn Hockey Classic in Hartford on Dec. 29.

Last Meeting... Alex Vazzano made 29 saves for Sacred Heart's first shutout since 2010 as the Pioneers beat UConn 3-0 in the UConn Hockey Classic in Hartford. Coltyn Hansen, Chad Filteau, and Ben Lake each scored in the second period. 

Sweep Gives Pioneers Chance At Home Playoff Series... The Pioneers earned their second weekend sweep of the season last weekend, beating second-place Bentley 5-4 and 5-2 to take all three games against the Falcons. Sacred Heart stil has an outside shot to take eighth place and host a first-round Atlantic Hockey playoff series. The Pioneers would need to sweep UConn, and would also need Holy Cross to be swept by Army.

George and Graboski Earn AHA Weekly Honors... Drew George and Spencer Graboski were named the AHA Player and Rookie of the week respectively this week. George had five points (2G, 3A) last weekend, with a career-high two assists last Saturday in the 5-2 win at Bentley. He has had at least two points in each of the last four games. Graboski had two goals and two assists last weekend, recording a career-high three points on Saturday. The freshman has scored a goal in each of the last three games.

Carroll's Helping Out... Jeff Carroll is currently on an eight-game point-scoring streak, the longest for any Pioneer this season. He has had an assist in each of the last seven of the last eight games, giving him 13 helpers for the season. Carroll has two goals and seven assists over this stretch of games.

Senior Day... Senior Co-Captains Neil Fachini and Chad Filteau, along with goaltender Chris Paliafito will be honored prior to Saturday's game for Senior Day. Entering this weekend, Filteau has played in 135 out of 142 games with 47 career points (23G, 24A). He has had double-digit points in each of his first three seasons, and has seven points this year. Fachini has played in 88 games in his career with three goals and nine points. He had his first multiple-point game of his career on Feb. 15 with a goal and an assist against AIC. Paliafito has appeared in two games in goal in his career. 

Scouting the Huskies... UConn is 5-4 in its last nine games and are currently tied for third in Atlantic Hockey with Air Force at 31 points. The Huskies have split their last four weekend series, including last weekend's games with Army. Seniors Billy Latta and Brant Harris lead UConn with 11 goals each. Jordan Sims has a team-high 15 assists. The Huskies lead Atlantic Hockey in scoring defense (2.34 goals allowed/game) and penalty kill percentage (83.6%).
