Men's Hockey Returns Home To Host Robert Morris This Weekend

Game Notes

Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart returns to the Milford Ice Pavilion Saturday night to open a two-game series with the Robert Morris Colonials.

Last Time Out... Goaltender Alex Vazzano made 49 saves but the Pioneers could not get on the scoreboard on Dec. 30, falling 5-0 to #8 Quinnipiac in the championship game of the UConn Hockey Classic. The Bobcats outshot the Pioneers 54-12, allowing just three shots in the final two periods. 

All-Time vs. Robert Morris... The Colonials lead the all-time series with Sacred Heart 8-0-1. Robert Morris has won the last seven meetings, including all four games last season. Sacred Heart skated to a 4-4 tie in the first Atlantic Hockey meeting between the two teams on Nov. 12, 2010. 

Last Meeting... Robert Morris knocked Sacred Heart out of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament with a two-game sweep at 84 Lumber Arena March 8-9, 2013. The Colonials won the second game 6-1 behind two goals by Cody Wydo. Adam Brace had four assists. Sacred Heart tied the game 1-1 on a Kyle Verbeek goal late in the first period, but Robert Morris scored five unansewred goals in the final two periods to move to the quarterfinals.

Vazzano Named UConn Hockey Classic MVP... Goaltender Alex Vazzano recorded his first career shutout last Sunday night, making 29 saves is Sacred Heart's 3-0 win over the Huskies. It was the Pioneers' first shutout since March 12, 2010 when Sacred Heart beat Holy Cross 4-0 in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals. He then recorded a career-high 49 saves against #8 Quinnipiac in the championship game. In the two games in Hartford, Vazzano made 78 saves with a 2.50 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.

Taking On All Comers... Sacred Heart wrapped up it's non-conference portion of the season on Monday with a 5-0 loss to #8 Quinnipiac in the championship game of the UConn Hockey Classic. The Bobcats were the third team from the 2013 Frozen Four that the Pioneers faced this season. Sacred Heart opened the season with a 2-1 win at UMass Lowell and lost 5-1 at Yale on Nov. 16. In six non-conference games, four were against ranked teams.

These New Kids Are Recording Points... Sacred Heart's freshman class has accounted for 55 of the Pioneers' 91 points so far this season. Justin Danforth leads the Pioneers with 13 points with Jordan Minello adding eight. Coltyn Hansen became the latest rookie to record his first career points on Sunday with a goal and an assist in the win over UConn. Spencer Graboski had his first multi-point game of his career Sunday with two assists.

Scouting the Colonials... Robert Morris is tied for 10th in Atlantic Hockey with six points and a 2-5-2 conference record. The Colonials two wins this season have come against Canisius and Holy Cross. Robert Morris is 0-4-1 in its last five games, including a pair of 3-2 losses to Penn State and Bowling Green in the Three Rivers Classic. Cody Wydo leads Atlantic Hockey with 12 goals.
