FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team will host a FanFest outside the Milford Ice Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. prior to the Pioneers' exhibition game against Simon Fraser.
This event will give fans a chance to meet and greet with the 2013-14 Pioneers as they open the season this month. FanFest will feature free food and giveaways, with free admission to the game at 3 p.m. Sacred Heart opens the season on Friday, Oct. 11 at UMass Lowell, last season's Hockey East champions and a Frozen Four participant. The Pioneers then play their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 12 against Rensselaer at 1 p.m at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Sacred Heart will play two games at Webster Bank Arena this season, taking on Army on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will also play a home game at Danbury Ice Arena on Nov. 23 against Army on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.
Sacred Heart will have a balance of returners and newcomers for the 2013-14 season. Fourteen skaters return from a year ago, with 12 newcomers eager to start the year. The Pioneers do return five of their top 10 point scorers from a year ago, led by junior forward Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, Mo.) who had 11 goals and 17 assists in 2012-13. Junior forward Nick Curry (Augusta, Ga.) was third on the team in assists with 11 last season, tallying 14 points. Senior Chad Filteau (Regina, Sask.) looks to build on his nine-goal season of a year ago, while juniors Drew George (Regina, Sask.) and Ben Lake (Calgary, Alb.) had double-digit points last year as well.
